South Carolina man killed in nighttime car crash, Lexington County coroner says

A South Carolina man was killed Tuesday night in a crash, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.

Brett Sterling Lamb, a 40-year-old Cayce resident, was the pedestrian who died in the accident, Coroner Margaret Fisher said Tuesday in a news release.

At about 8:20 p.m. Monday, Lamb was walking across U.S. 321/Charleston Highway when he was hit by a northbound vehicle, according to the release. The collision happened in the 2400 block of Charleston Highway, which is in Cayce, not far from Exit 115 on Interstate 26.

Lamb died at the scene, according to the release.

Fisher said that the driver, who remained at the scene, was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if the driver was wearing a seat belt.

Both the coroner’s office and the Cayce Police Department continue to investigate the crash.

Through Sunday, 168 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 999 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 12 people have died in Lexington County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data. There were 45 deaths reported in the county in 2023, DPS reported.
