Social media threat made at Munster High

School Town of Munster officials said Friday Munster Police were investigating a student’s social media post that hinted at a potential threat at Munster High School.

Munster Police Chief Steve Scheckel said two brothers, ages 17 and 18, who were suspended from school Thursday after fighting, allegedly posted threats on social media directed toward a Munster High School staff member.

When the students were confronted, the 18-year-old allegedly admitted to making the threats. That individual, who was not in the building on Friday, has been arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail, Scheckel said.

Charging documents were not immediately available Friday afternoon.

“There was no immediate threat to the students,” Scheckel said.

School spokeswoman Kim C. Peirick. said Munster High officials were alerted to the social media post by students.

“The school took immediate action, collaborating with authorities to investigate thoroughly and ensure the safety of all students and staff. Thankfully, the situation was resolved without incident. The school remains vigilant in prioritizing the safety and well-being of its community,” said spokeswoman Kim C. Peirick.

Officials said school was not interrupted.

Both Munster High School Principal Morgan Nolan and Wilbur Wright Middle School Principal Bojan Jovanovic said in the letter to parents that authorities determined there was no longer a threat to the campus. The middle and high school share the same campus.
