Smyth Co. Schools employee run over after vehicle slipped out of gear, town official says

UPDATE: The employee was released from the hospital with minor injuries on Thursday morning, Smyth County Schools Superintendent Dennis Carter told News Channel 11.

MARION, Va. (WJHL) — An employee of Smyth County, Virginia Schools was flown to a nearby hospital after he was reportedly run over when his vehicle slipped out of gear.

A spokesperson for the Town of Marion told News Channel 11 that the incident took place Wednesday afternoon on Marion Senior High School property.

The employee reportedly parked a vehicle on an embankment, and when he went to get out, it came out of gear and the front tire ran him over. The town spokesperson said onlookers were able to stop the vehicle and keep it from hitting anything else.

The man was reportedly flown to a hospital with chest pain, the town said.
