Slough: Exploding cannister nearly hits binmen, council says
A gas cannister exploded from the back of a waste lorry narrowly missing two binmen, a council has said.
The container flew out of the truck in Marcia Court in Slough, Berkshire, on Tuesday.
Slough Borough Council said the cannister had been wrongly left in a waste bin for collection and exploded on contact with the compactor.
The authority said only the crew members' quick reflexes saved them from serious injury.
Councillor Gurcharan Singh Manku, in charge of environmental services, said: "Gas cannisters of any sort should never be placed in a domestic bin and can be disposed of for free at our recycling centre.
"The crew was lucky today... I would hate to think of what would have happened if they had not reacted so quickly or if there had been a child or even a local resident nearby who ended up being struck."
