SLO mayor to run for reelection, seeking ‘a thriving, inclusive and sustainable future’

San Luis Obispo Mayor Erica Stewart has announced plans to run for reelection this November.

In a news release Monday, Stewart said her campaign will “officially launch at the end of May with a public event on the steps of City Hall.”

Stewart is a Cal Poly alumna who currently teaches public speaking in the university’s College of Liberal Arts. She also co-owns Albert’s Florist in San Luis Obispo.

She was elected to the San Luis Obispo City Council in 2018, becoming the city’s first Black council member. She was appointed to mayor in 2021 to replace former Mayor Heidi Harmon.

Most recently, she won reelection in November 2022.

“Her commitment extends beyond city limits, participating actively in regional and statewide initiatives that benefit the county and beyond,” the release said. “With her husband, Shay, Erica has deepened her roots in the area through extensive volunteer work and philanthropy, contributing to various local and regional projects that aim to enhance community well-being and working to help those most vulnerable in our community.”

According to the release, Stewart’s tenure as mayor has “been marked by her unwavering dedication to inclusivity and collaboration.”

“Her campaign looks forward to building on these achievements to ensure a thriving, inclusive and sustainable future for all in the city,” the release concluded.
