SJCSO report: man flees police, crashes into multiple vehicles with child in back

Saint Johns County deputy has reported a man fleeing from arrest and crashing into multiple vehicles with their daughter in the back seat at 262 West King Street.

At 7:15 p.m on March 24, deputies reported that the individual was being arrested for having an active warrant for felony battery, and then fled the scene on foot to their vehicle.

Kasim Howard, age 40, ignored multiple verbal commands to stop running, then drove eastbound on West King Street, performing a U-turn when the deputy’s car turned their lights on in front of them.

The passenger of the vehicle was their own 17-year-old child, who was inside before Howardfled the scene.

As the vehicle attempted to escape, Howard began to drive recklessly northbound on Masters Drive and Evergreen, intentionally ramming into three vehicles to try and block their path.

One vehicle was a deputy officer’s car attempting to set up a potential roadblock, which was hit in the bumper as Howard attempted to drive past, activating the emergency lights and sirens.

The driver then came to a stop at 46 Nesmith Ave and was given multiple verbal commands to step out of the vehicle and get on the ground.

Howard continued to resist law enforcement and was put into a straight armbar takedown, then was secured in handcuffs.

No bystanders were injured during the incident.
