Showers & storms for your Friday; upcoming weekend will be cooler with lots of sunshine

Friday will start off dry during the pre-dawn hours. By the middle morning hours, an arriving cold front will cause showers to build in. Scattered showers look like a good bet by lunchtime and into the afternoon, and we can’t rule out a rumble of thunder or two. The risk of severe weather looks low, but we could see one or two strong storms possible, with damaging winds and hail being the biggest risks.

Friday evening will feature the chance for an isolated thunderstorm, slowly decreasing in coverage towards midnight. As high pressure builds in, cloud cover will decrease and if we see enough clouds diminish, some patchy fog looks possible Saturday morning. Temps for tonight will drop into the 40s.

Saturday features a few morning clouds as we start the ‘drying out’ phase from Fridays showers. Lunchtime into the afternoon looks fantastic with sunny skies expected! On top of that, temps will be slightly cooler with many reaching into the 50s and 60s during the second half.

Sunday continues where Saturday left off with more sunshine on the way! A mostly sunny morning will transition to a partly cloudy afternoon. A stalled front in the southern United States will provide some extra cloud cover for our Virginia counties but we look to remain dry through the rest of the weekend. Temps stay cool for your Sunday with many only getting into the 50s.

The overnight for both your Saturday and Sunday will be rather cold for this time of the year with temps dropping into the 30s. We could even see some patchy frost possible both nights, which can pose a risk for any outdoor vegetation and plants. If you have any outdoor plants you want to keep safe, either cover them up or try to take them inside both nights.

Monday will be our coldest morning yet with many in the middle to upper 30s. With high pressure around once again, there won’t be much in the way of cloud cover for your Monday. Sunny skies are expected once again with temps getting a slight warm up into the 60s.

Our Interactive Radar

Tuesday won’t be that bad of a morning with mostly clear skies around. This will help with temps climbing into the 50s by lunchtime and eventually into the upper 60s by the late afternoon. Clouds will build from the northwest Tuesday night as our next system brings in the chances for showers as we get closer to midnight.

Wednesday morning looks soggy with scattered showers moving through so don’t forget to pack something to keep yourself day. By the middle to late morning hours, rain chances will decrease as our cold front moves off to the east. Only hit or miss showers are expected through the afternoon, mostly confined to the mountains, with temps back in the 60s.

#WeatherTogether

In your extended forecast, we’ll enjoy a break on Thursday, but that break will be short lived. Rain chances look to build next Friday with chances for showers lasting through next weekend. Doesn’t look to be a total washout but a good reminder to keep those umbrellas around.

We are in spring forest fire season in West Virginia – this means don’t burn between 7 AM and 5 PM through May 31st. Low humidity values during the daytime, along with breezier and warmer conditions will at times increase the fire threat, hence the burn ban during most of the daytime. Follow all regulations or be faced with potential consequences, such as fines! In Virginia, the spring fire season continues through April 30th – don’t burn before 4 PM.
