The shooting Tuesday left three people injured inside a home on Diego Circle.

Officials say the shooting took place near a playground and across the street from Montclair Elementary School.

“You can’t do this,” Sheriff Chip Simmons said. “You can’t go out there in an area where there’s a school nearby, where there’s children playing nearby, and I don’t care whether that was your intended target or not but you cannot be that careless with an individual’s life.”

Wednesday, deputies tracked down a stolen Hyundai Sonata believed to be involved in the shooting on Redwood Circle.

Simmons says the gunshot recognition technology ShotSpotter alerted them of the shots, and their newly up-and-running Real Time Crime Center allowed them to get a photo of the vehicle.

“ShotSpotter allowed us to get there quickly and then we activated the Real Time Crime Center to get the information out to our deputies and to other agencies so that we get all the information that we have as quickly as we possibly can and give us the best chance to apprehend those who are responsible,“ Simmons said.

Investigators believe the shooting may have been retaliation for another shooting.
