Shockers downed by Sooners in midweek rematch, 11-2

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita State University offense was dormant for nine innings while allowing the Oklahoma Sooners to plate 11 to win on Tuesday at Eck Stadium, 11-2.

The Sooners struck early and often, scoring two runs in the second and two in the third before putting the game out of reach with four and three in the eighth and ninth, respectively.

Wichita State, on the other hand, managed to put one run across in the third inning, with Dayvin Johnson scoring on a passed ball. They added another run in the bottom of the ninth with the game all but over off a single up the middle.

The Shockers used nine pitchers on the night. Daniel Zang got the start but only lasted one inning after getting run-off in the second.

All told, the Shockers’ pitchers allowed just eight hits but issued 13 walks, which led to the Sooners’ inflated run total.

It will be a short turnaround for the Shockers, as in-state foe Kansas comes to Eck Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
