Sheriff talks accusations of deputies shooting cat as target practice & Mojave mass murder investigation

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Sheriff Youngblood joined Sunrise 17 News at Sunrise to discuss a recent accusation regarding deputies shooting a cat as target practice and the Mojave mass murders.

Last month, a women accused KCSO deputies of shooting cat at the Hart Park training facility. While the woman didn’t capture the actual shooting on video, she did record her confrontation with the three men involved.

“Any administrative investigation that involves personnel, we look at is their a crime committed, is the crime discretionary?” Youngblood said. He also confirmed the cat has since died.

According to the Sheriff, no security video footage from the facility or eyewitness videos of the alleged shooting are available.

Sheriff also discussed the Mojave mass murders which happened on April 30, 2023.

He states the investigation has been completed and has been submitted to the district attorney’s office for a review. The D.A. will now decide if there is enough evidence to issue a complaint or obtain a conviction, the Sheriff said.
