Jeremy Jones, 47, has entered a plea to his count of aggravated battery, a felony, in the death of Tommy Casey Jr. As part of the agreement, the state will dismiss his murder and robbery charges.

Responding officers found Casey Jr. with “obvious signs” of trauma to his head on March 28, 2022 in the 100 block of South Catherwood Avenue. He died the next day.

Police in charging documents said witnesses told detectives that Jones and Casey. Had been smoking methamphetamine that night and got into an argument about calling Jones a nickname, which may have led to the beating.

IMPD Violent Crimes Unit with assistance from the Batesville Police Department located and arrested Jones on the warrant in connection with Casey’s killing and two additional unrelated warrants.

On Thursday, the court accepted Jones’ plea and scheduled his sentencing hearing for May 10.
