SHEBOYGAN — Farnsworth Middle School announced to families April 16 that the school would be closed for the day.

The school was closed following a "social media threat of school violence," a post on the Sheboygan Area School District website said.

Sheboygan Area School District Superintendent Seth Harvatine said in an email the individuals who made the "threatening comments" were identified through collaboration with the Sheboygan Police Department. He did not provide any additional information on who the individuals were.

"The threat was deemed non-credible, and there is no ongoing concern for school safety," Harvatine said in the email.

Additionally, according to the school's Facebook page, the track meet scheduled for April 16 was also canceled and will be rescheduled.
