‘She loved to love’: Family mourns Lebanon woman shot, killed by husband

LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Middle Tennessee mother of four, who police said was killed at the hands of her husband, is being remembered for her outgoing, loving spirit.

Steve Yarbrough, 42, turned himself in to Lebanon police over the weekend; he is accused of shooting his wife, Catara Yarbrough, multiple times at a Lebanon apartment complex.

Family and neighbors of the couple called it a heartbreaking turn of events.

“My aunt, she was outspoken, she loved life, she was always just full of energy,” Catara’s niece Trinity Peoples explained.

Boisterous, outspoken, and spiritual, Catara’s family said she shined a light of love that will always resonate.

“She just loved to love on people, especially in her role as a mother,” said Trinity. “I know they are going to miss her so much and that’s all I can really think about is they have to finish out their school days without their mom. They don’t get to have her for graduation; she doesn’t get to see her oldest or any of them walk across the stage. No weddings, no births of grandchildren, nothing like that. It was all just cut short.”

Shortly after midnight Saturday, neighbors heard an argument.

“It sounded like it was right outside my door. I could hear like crying, and clearly somebody in fear,” a neighbor explained.

Then multiple shots were fired.

“I want to say it was between four and six shots is what I heard, pretty rapid fire,” the neighbor said.

Bullet holes and markings can be seen in the hallway of the apartment complex where the shooting happened. Neighbors said a number of children live in the building; some took cover.

“She tried to leave the premises, and he followed her down and shot her in the back four times,” Peoples explained.

Hours later, Steve turned himself in to police. The family is heartbroken, especially for the couple’s four children who they said have essentially lost both parents.

“(I’m) at a lost for words. I hate that it turned this way. Nobody deserves this. Nobody deserves for their life to be ended like that.”

Catara’s family has started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses and to support her four children.
