SF power outage impacting thousands of customers

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A PG&E outage in San Francisco Tuesday morning left thousands of customers without power, according to PG&E’s outage tracker. The outage appears to be widespread, impacting customers across neighborhoods that include the Presidio, Russian Hill, Cow Hollow, and Pacific Heights. The majority of those impacted appear to be in the Presidio, according to the PG&E outage map.

Earlier, PG&E’s outage tracker indicated that as many as 14,000 customers were without power. A PG&E spokesperson clarified that number, telling KRON 4 that at 7:56 a.m., 7,860 customers were without power.

By 9:06 a.m., that number had dropped to just 1,779 without power. By 11:30 a.m., there were only 375 customers still without power, PG&E said.

According to the utility, the preliminary cause of the investigation appears to be an underground cable. PG&E said it is working to restore power to the remaining customers.

If you are experiencing a power outage, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management advises unplugging and turning off appliances and leaving one light on to signal when power is restored.
