‘Sexually violent predator’ may be released, housed in Jacumba Hot Springs

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Superior Court has ordered the conditional release of a “sexually violent predator,” local authorities confirmed Thursday.

David Munoz, who was convicted of “lewd and lascivious acts with a child” dating back to 1988 and 1992, may be housed in the unincorporated community of Jacumba Hot Springs. The sheriff’s department said the court recommended he live at 45612 Old Hwy 80.

A hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 3 to determine whether or not the recommendation is approved. In the meantime, the SAFE Task Force will be accepting public comments about the proposed placement to be included in the formal response to the court.

“This is your opportunity to support or object to the proposed placement before it is finalized,” the sheriff’s department stated in a news release on the matter. “The District Attorney’s Office and the SAFE Task Force will submit your comments to the court for the court’s consideration.”

Comments will be accepted until April 18, authorities said. They can be sent via email to sdsafe@sdsheriff.org, or made by phone at (858) 583-7238. Oral comments can also be made during the court hearing, which takes place in front of Judge David M. Gill at the San Diego Superior Court.
