Severe weather threat winding down in the Wiregrass but flooding continues
DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)– After a very active morning of storms, the severe weather threat in the Wiregrass has come to an end as the strongest of storms have moved east into Georgia.
Despite the severe weather threat ending, heavy rainfall is expected to continue through around lunchtime. The rain will be falling over saturated soil so flash flooding will continue to be a concern over the next couple of hours.
A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for southern Coffee, southwest Dale, and much of Geneva County until 12:30 PM.
There are also scattered reports of damage across the Wiregrass from this morning’s storms, and WDHN is working to learn more about which areas have been affected most significantly.
For the rest of Saturday afternoon, we can expect on-and-off showers and thunderstorms. If we manage to see a little sunshine this afternoon, an additional round of strong storms could be possible during the early evening, but severe weather is not anticipated.
Sunshine and warmer weather will return to the forecast next week, as high temperatures reach the upper 80s.
