UPDATE: Closures following severe weather (list)

UPDATE (April 11): Some locations are still closed following yesterday’s severe weather, News 5 has learned.

We are keeping track of the locations that are still closed as of April 11 in this update.

Mobile Parks, Escatwapa Hollow Park & Campground beach area & trails

According to a press release issued from Mobile County, Esctawapa Hollow Park & Campground’s beach access and trails are slotted to remain closed today, April 11, following yesterday’s severe weather.

Officials shared that the closure is in place due to high and swift river conditions.

The closure follows yesterday’s closure at noon due to the severe weather event. It was noted in the press release that, “Water levels may subside slowly because the Escatawpa River Watershed is the north and west portions of the County. “

A notice will be issued and posted on social media when the park and campground return to normal operations, according to the release.

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The severe weather forecast for Wednesday is affecting more than just schools.

WKRG News 5 is compiling a list of closures ahead of Wednesday’s system that is set to bring in windy conditions, rough surf, severe weather, and possible flooding. (Be sure to check back for updates!)

Alabama Closures

Chickasaw

Chickasaw City Hall: Chickasaw City Hall will be closed today, Wednesday, April 10 due to the threat of severe weather.

City Hall will reopen tomorrow, Thursday, April 11, at 8 a.m., according to a press release.

Mobile

Officials with the city of Mobile announced a Proclamation of Civil Emergency for the city of Mobile and its police jurisdiction. The civil emergency went into effect starting at noon and is set to last until 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 10.

During the emergency, the city of Mobile will close its offices for non-essential personnel.

Mobile Parks and Recreation Department Community Centers and Senior Centers will remain open during their regular operating hours, according to the release. The public is welcome to use these centers during the severe weather.

Battleship Memorial Park:

REVISED with Update from park officials: USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park is closing early Wednesday, according to a press release.

The park is now set to close at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10. Previously, the park was set to close at noon, but officials revised the closure due to the severity of the storm.

Visitors can expect normal park hours on Thursday, April 11, according to the release.

Park officials shared that they will post updates on their Facebook page.

Mobile Community Action: The Mobile Community Acrion’s Head Start Centers will be closed Wednesday, April 10, in response to the threat of severe weather, according to a press release.

Officials say the closure will impact administrative offices and community services.

Normal operating hours are expected to resume at 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 11.

Mobile Public Library: Officials with Mobile Public Library shared a change in schedule due to the threat of severe weather.

In a press release, the library shared that it will be closing at noon on Wednesday, April 10.

Mississippi Closures

Jackson

Mississippi Department of Human Services: The MDHS has announced the closure of its offices on Wednesday, April 10, in the following counties as severe weather is expected.

  • Claiborne: Delayed start at 11 a.m.

  • Copiah: Delayed start at 11 a.m.

  • Greene

  • Jones: Delayed start at 11 a.m.

  • Lincoln: Delayed start at 11 a.m.

  • Perry

  • Quitman

  • Wayne

  • Franklin

  • Jefferson

  • Lawrence: Delayed start at 11 a.m.

  • Lamar

  • Pike: Delayed start at 11 a.m.

  • Simpson

  • Wilkinson: Delayed start at 11 a.m.

According to a press release, county office employees whose offices are not listed should check with their supervisors.

MDHS noted that although the physical offices will be closed, resources are available on the website. Clients can continue to apply for services during the closure, according to the release.

Florida Closures

Escambia County

Officials with Escambia County say that offices will be closed at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 ahead of potential severe weather.

The offices set to close at 1 p.m. include:

  • Escambia County Board of County Commissioners: all departments

  • West Florida Public Libraries: all locations

  • Escambia County Tax Collector: all offices. Lines will close by 12:30 so that all transactions are completed by closing, according to the release.

  • Escambia County Supervisor of Elections

  • Escambia County Extension Services

Essential employees such as first responders will remain available, according to the release.

Escambia County Area Transit: Escambia County Area Transit announced that it will suspend all service, including UWF trolleys on Wednesday, April 10 due to the potential of severe weather.

According to a press release, ECAT administrative offices and customer service will also be closed on Wednesday. The only services set to remain open are dialysis and life-sustaining services.

Regular services are expected to resume on Thursday, April 11.

Gulf Breeze

Fort Pickens Area: The Fort Pickens Area has been closed as of 5 p.m. on April 9 ahead of the Wednesday severe weather threat.

The area will remain closed until further notice, according to National Park Service’s website.

According to the release, the Fort Pickens Area Campgrounds will also be closed for severe weather. Campers were expected to evacuate by 2 p.m. on April 9, and the campgrounds are slated to remain closed through Thursday, April 11.

Milton

The Santa Rosa County Courthouse (including Clerk of Courts staff) closed at 1 p.m. today, April 10.

  • County offices will remain open for normal business hours today, Wed., April 10. This includes the property appraiser, supervisor of elections and tax collector offices.

  • Clerk of Courts offices closed at 1 p.m. today, April 10.

  • Emergency Management has activated to a Level 2 Modified (emergency management staff only) for this severe weather threat.

Navarre

The Navarre Beach Pier will close at 4 p.m. today, April 10 and is expected to open for normal operating hours on Thur., April 11.

Pensacola

City of Pensacola offices and facilities will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, due to anticipated hazardous weather conditions. Essential departments including Pensacola Fire Department and Pensacola Police Department will remain available.

Pensacola International Airport will remain open. Check with airlines about potential flight delays. Pensacola International Airport Administration Offices will be closed.

City of Pensacola Sanitation Services collections will not be impacted.
