Severe weather expected Thursday evening. Here's what forecasters are saying.

The National Weather Service is expecting severe thunderstorms in the Tri-State on Thursday evening.

The area is in an "enhanced risk" zone for severe weather, according to a briefing posted Thursday morning.

Here's a look at what forecasters are saying.

When will the storms reach Evansville and Henderson?

The National Weather Service says a few storms may develop after 3 p.m., ahead of the main line of thunderstorms, which will happen later in the evening.

The main line of storms, which are expected to be strong to severe, will arrive in the Evansville and Henderson areas between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

What kind of severe weather is possible?

The National Weather Service says damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes are possible.

In the Evansville and Henderson areas, the greatest concern is for damaging wind gusts (classified as winds of 60 mph or higher).

The best threat for large hail is to the west of the Tri-State, in the St. Louis area.

Will there be heavy rain with the storms?

It's possible, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Anywhere from three-quarters of an inch to 1.25 inches of rain is possible Thursday evening.

What will the weather be like after Thursday evening?

It will be much quieter and cooler in the region after the cold front passes through.

The high temperature on Friday is expected to reach 63 degrees − 20 degrees less than what is forecast for Thursday in Evansville and Henderson. High temperatures will stay in the lower 60s and upper 50s until Tuesday, when rain chances re-enter the forecast.
