Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service for parts of southeastern San Diego County as another storm moved through the region Monday afternoon.

The warning was issued just before 1 p.m. and expired at 2 p.m. for communities including El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Bonita and Ramona. While it was in place, wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and nickel-sized hail could be possible. A map of the warning area can be found below.

According to NWS, the strongest thunderstorm picked up on radar by 1:30 p.m. was south of Interstate 8 in San Diego, producing wind gusts of around 45 to 55 miles per hour. Isolated showers an thunderstorms were also identified along Interstate 15 in the county.

By 1:50 p.m., a southwest-moving thunderstorm was identified by NWS over Lake Elsinore in Riverside County. Wind gusts of about 30 to 40 miles per hour were recorded with brief heavy rain and possible small hail.

The severe thunderstorm warning comes on the heels of another bout of thunderstorms last week, which brought heavy rainfall, hail and some snow to San Diego County.
