Several Colorado schools closed Monday due to power outages

DENVER (KDVR) — Normally, classes are canceled in April due to snow, but after a dangerously windy weekend, several schools across Colorado are closed due to power outages.

High winds disrupted weekend plans across Colorado, with gusts reaching up to 90 mph in some counties.

Xcel Energy chose to preemptively shut off power to 55,000 customers over the weekend.

When will power be restored in Colorado? Xcel Energy is unsure

While thousands have had their power restored on Monday, tens of thousands are still waiting for theirs to be turned back on.

“With the significant number of outages from this weather event, this restoration process will extend into Monday, April 8 and possibly longer for some customers,” Xcel said.
