Was Sen. Rick Scott's appearance at the Trump trial worth it? 2024 elections will tell.

Sen. Scott's toadying for Trump is deplorable

We recently saw the debasement of a politician toadying for favor with the disgraced ex-President. Sen. Rick Scott had the temerity to attend the Trump trial in New York City and attempt to defend the ex-President by stating he was “... proud of him for standing up for all of us. If they go after the former president, they can go after you.” Well, Senator, “they” will only come after us if we undermine the rule of law, violate the U.S. Constitution, disavow the peaceful transfer of power, and relinquish any adherence to the norms of our society’s institutions.

In 1956, President Eisenhower stated, “If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a course that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.” The former president and his supporters do not stand for any of us who continue to believe in the great American experiment of democracy.  Sen. Scott’s performance before the microphones was another low point and a testament to his unfitness to serve in the U.S. Senate.

Pleading the 5th always an option

Sen. Rick Scott went to the New York trial of Donald Trump to show his support for his friend. When he was interviewed he said the trial was purely political and if the Justice Department can go after Trump they can go after any one of us. Well, I'm not too concerned. If that happens, I learned from [Scott] to plead the Fifth [Amendment] 75 times.

Genocide charge against Israel nonsensical

A recent letter has left me speechless and in need of a rebuttal. The writer mentions "genocide" multiple times with respect to Israel, a false and inflammatory charge. Only Hamas's charter clearly states its goal is to wipe out Israel and the Jews. That's genocide, not a response to an act of war and aggression so heinous that the collective psyche of the Jewish State is under assault. The world is rife with real genocide, real acts of horror. Yet, only the Jews, of which I am proud to be, are held to a higher standard. Palestine is Hamas, Hamas is Palestine. Hamas must be destroyed. War is hell but this is a war started by Hamas, who can end it by freeing the hostages and laying down their arms.

Women rock the Pathfinder scholarships

What a pleasure it was to find the 2024 Pathfinder scholarship awards in the Mother's Day edition. It did not go without notice that out of the 19 different categories, young women were in first place in 13. One thing that particularly jumped out at me was in the computer engineering and technology category. All three winners were young women. Congratulations to all the winners in all of the categories but especially to all of the young women, 35 out of 55, who are recognized for their achievements.
