Selma woman arrested, enters courthouse with gun, baby, deputies say

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A woman has been arrested after court security allegedly caught her entering a courthouse with a gun and a two-and-a-half-month-old baby, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies say on Tuesday, 24-year-old Lizeth Alaniz Perez of Selma entered the main lobby of the Fresno County Superior Courthouse. She was carrying her infant and diaper bag as she approached the security screening station.

Sheriff’s officials say as her bag passed through the x-ray machine, a sheriff’s community service officer detected an object resembling a gun. After opening the bag, it was confirmed to be a loaded 9mm handgun, which deputies confiscated.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office says the woman was placed under arrest and booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of several felony gun-related charges. Deputies turned her two-and-a-half-month-old child over to workers with the Fresno County Child Protective Services.

Sheriff’s officials remind the public that when visiting courthouses, all weapons are not allowed, including firearms, knives and pocketknives of all sizes, tear gas, stun guns, scissors, knitting needled, etc. Food and beverages, including water, cannot be brought into the courthouse either.
