Selena Gomez's Mom Mandy Teefey Says She Tried to Talk Her Out of Working With Woody Allen

Celebrities have recently begun expressing their regret over working with director Woody Allen, who is a controversial figure due to past allegations that he sexually abused his adopted step-daughter, Dylan Farrow. And while he was never formally charged with a crime, the accusations have followed him over the years.

Earlier this month, film director and actress Greta Gerwig, who recently won a Golden Globe for her film Lady Bird, said she would have never acted in his film 2012 film To Rome With Love had known about the accusations. And actor Timothée Chalamet, who stars in the upcoming A Rainy Day in New York, also just announced that he would donate his salary to charity. However, Selena Gomez, who also stars alongside Timothée, has remained silent to much criticism about her involvement with Woody's movie. Her mother Mandy Teefey has not though.

In an Instragram post dedicated to the memory of Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan, who died yesterday, Mandy was asked why Selena hasn't apologized yet for working with Woody.

"Make Selena write an apology about the woddy Allen [sic] film," @victorcircus1 said on Instagram. Mandy replied by saying, "Sorry, No one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click. Her team are amazing people. There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears."

Selena's fans were not pleased with Mandy's comments that they believe threw her "under the bus," writing things like, "Hey, Mandy you should be ashamed of yourself! You're really out here making selena look bad and also talking about her personal life to the media, I feel so sorry for Selena" and "You have a real issue... Whatever kind of conversation you had with Selena is nobody’s business. You just threw your own kid under the bus even after watching the media tear her apart everyday. You genuinely do not care. You just love the drama. Shame on you. Stop throwing a tantrum & act your age for once!"

That said, some commenters noted that Mandy had a point with others responding, "Stop defending Selena she's in the wrongs [sic]. Idgaf she's in wrongs and the problem with you guys is even when Selena is wrong you still praise her."

Both Mandy and Selena have yet to address the issue.
