BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A new building in Brooklyn features 100% affordable housing, including some units with waterfront views.

Greenpoint Landing, located on Commercial Street, is focused on helping homeless families and low-income families get a new home they can afford. It features 374 units of new affordable housing.

Robert Pamphille, a 74-year-old from Trinidad, said it’s more than just a new home. It has completely transformed his life. Pamphille said he was in a shelter for six years with his wife, who is living with disabilities.

Pamphille said he had to pinch himself when he was selected to move into his new affordable two-bedroom apartment at Greenpoint Landing back in November.

Pamphille was one of the first residents to move into the new building. His building is one of 11 that are part of the development in the heart of Greenpoint.

The development is a collaboration between the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the New York City Housing Development Corporation, Park Tower Group and Breaking Ground.

It’s not just affordable housing; it’s a community that provides social services such as mental health care to benefit assistance for a full year.

There are more than 30 affordable housing lotteries open across New York City. You can apply online on the NYC Housing Connect website.
