Pop-punk band Fall Out Boy brought personality and pyrotechnics to a nearly bursting Golden 1 Center on Sunday night.

The group was playing the third show in their So Much For (2our) Dust tour, an extension of last year’s similarly named tour that launched after the release of their eighth album, “So Much (for) Stardust.”

The quartet consists of guitarist and vocalist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley.

Wentz, who did most of the speaking for the group, marveled that the band had managed to sell out the Sacramento arena. He had a message for his fans.

“Whatever you make — if it’s bracelets or TikTok or videos or music or beads — whatever it is, make stuff. Make stuff because you have to make stuff, so you feel like you are alive,” he said. “Make stuff, and make the world a little bit more f---ing weird.”

Wentz and his bandmates made good on the thought, with weird touches that included an enormous dog head puppet that mouthed the music and tried to snack on group members.

Fall Out Boy released its first album in 2003, and their legacy includes four No. 1 albums and 10 Top 40 singles. Last week, the group released a notably weird music video for the album’s title track featuring Miami Heat basketball player Jimmy Butler.

The group played Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento in 2015.

The tour started in Portland, Oregon, and continues Monday with a sold-out show in Anaheim.

The show began with angst-y “bubble-grunge” duo Daisy Grenade, Arizona emo group The Maine and longtime alternative rock staple Jimmy Eat World.
