Second suspect arrested after man found dead in buried freezer in Carter County

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — A second suspect has been taken into custody after a man was found dead in a buried freezer in Carter County.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced Friday afternoon that Jim Chambers was found and arrested in Louisiana.

Sheriff: Carter Co. man charged with murder after missing man found dead in freezer

Chambers was taken into custody with the assistance of the FBI office in New Orleans, Lousiana State Police, and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, according to the TBI.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office charged Chambers with first-degree murder in connection to the death of Edward Elliott, who was found on May 15 inside a buried freezer in a remote part of Hampton. Elliott had been reported missing on March 31 but family members said they hadn’t heard from him since late January.

The sheriff’s office announced that Chambers was a suspect on Tuesday. He also faces charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

“I want to express my deepest thanks to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the FBI New Orleans Office, the Louisiana State Police, and the Jefferson Parrish Sheriff’s Office for aiding the apprehension of Mr. Chambers,” Sheriff Mike Fraley said in a release. “I would also like to thank the public for their assistance in providing tips and spreading the word that we were looking for Mr. Chambers in the death of Mr. Elliott. It was an anonymous tip we received that ultimately led us to identify Mr. Chambers and Mr. Guinn as suspects in the murder of Mr. Elliott.”

Another suspect, Joey Guinn, also faces first-degree murder and other charges in the case.
