PHOTOS: Sebring residents evacuated due to ‘large’ brush fire

HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A large brush fire caused some Sebring residents to evacuate their homes Sunday afternoon, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Around noon, the 55-acre fire rapidly spread, causing all homes on Granada Boulevard between Edgewater Driver and Ortego Street, which was roughly about 20 homes, to be evacuated.

All impacted residents were sent to the community center in Sun ‘n Lake. The evacuation order was lifted at 4:25 p.m.

Fire crews remained on the scene until 5 p.m., wetting fire lines close to some homes. The Florida Forest Service – Okeechobee District remained on the scene to monitor and investigate the cause of the fire.

The sheriff’s office said there were no injuries or property damage.

Officials said residents can expect to see lingering smoke overnight.
