The Facebook post reads:

“This is an update regarding the outages the Scranton School District is currently experiencing due to a ransomware attack. The attack is causing a temporary disruption to some of our computer systems and services. We are working diligently with third-party forensic specialists, that we engaged last evening, to investigate the source of this incident, confirm its impact on our systems, and restore full functionality to the system as soon as possible. As you know, some files may be inaccessible during this period as we, and the third-party forensic specialists, continue the investigation. Due to the increased security measures placed in our systems, some functions may be slower than usual. As always, thank you for your continued support during this time.”

For up-to-date information regarding the cyber attack be sure to check SSD’s Facebook page. Efforts to access the school district’s website have been unsuccessful.

District Officials told 28/22 News we are working diligently with our third party forensic specialists to restore our systems to full functionality as soon as possible. In the meantime, the District is troubleshooting challenges to the best of our ability, and accommodations are being made at the school level to grant staff access to information they may need on a daily basis.

At this point, we do not have a timeline until we are restored to our full functionality. The District would like to thank our dedicated staff and our families for their patience and understanding while we work to solve this.

This is an ongoing investigation and 28/22 News will update you with the latest information as it becomes avaiable.
