Scranton School District increasing security presence

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Superintendent of the Scranton School District (SSD), Dr. Erin Keating, issued a statement on Monday, regarding violence going on in recent weeks.

Dr. Keating says recently the school district has received several reports of fights and threats of violence in West Scranton and at Memorial Stadion at Scranton High School and that these violent occurrences have been physical and verbal fights between students.

Due to the violence, the SSD will be increasing security at the West Scranton Intermediate School and West Scranton High School during dismissal, especially in places where these violent altercations have occurred.

Dr. Keating added that residents be vigilant and speak up if they see anything that looks like fighting, aggression, harassment, or bullying.
