Santa Rosa County Animal Services waives adoption fees for St. Pawdi's Day event

Santa Rosa County Animal Services invites the public to attend an adoption event featuring puppies, adult dogs and cats, and waived adoption fees for St. Pawdi's Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at the SRCAS shelter, 4451 Pine Forest Road, Milton.

The Krewe of Wicked Pirates will attend in support as well as several vendors including Friends of SRCAS; Fat Momma’s Car Freshies; CC’s Designz; Krewe of Silver Slippers; Josie’s Bread Company; Katie Cake Designs; Pensacola Shakes and Smoothies; Southern Sass Creations; and Victor Tisdale’s Woodworking.

Food Distribution & Car Seat Giveaway comes to Marcus Pointe

Rep. Michelle Salzman in partnership with Farm Share, Kia, Kevin Stephens and other community partners is sponsoring a quarterly community outreach event from 7:30 a.m. until supplies last Saturday, March 16 at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church, 6205 North W St.

This event includes 30,000 pounds of fresh food as well as 100 car seats for the residents of District One. There will be a drive-thru for food with a designated space for walk-up, and a separate space for people to pick up their car seats. Cars may line up no earlier than 7 a.m. The first 100 families are guaranteed to receive food.

Paws N’ Claws Pet Services hosts annual Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive

Paws N’ Claws Pet Services is hosting the fifth annual Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive in the Pace and Milton area to benefit homeless pets of The Mylo Foundation.

Animal shelters and pet rescue organizations across the country are in dire need. Locally, The Mylo Foundation is in need of pet donations for the coming year. The organization needs dog food of all kinds including some that are salmon or fish-based for dogs with allergies, toys of any kind, treats of any kind, pet-safe cleaning supplies, blankets, towels, or any other pet items.As part of an international effort spearheaded by Pet Sitters International, the largest educational association for professional pet-sitting and dog-walking businesses, the Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive was created to collect pet food for local shelters and pet-rescue groups across the globe.

Donations are accepted now through March 31 at 7072 Wallace Drive in Pace.

Daniel Tiger arrives at Be My Neighbor Day

WSRE PBS invites the community to come together for the station’s annual Be My Neighbor Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at the station’s Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio.

This free, family-fun event emphasizes early learning, health and safety, and the neighborly values of Mister Rogers and Daniel Tiger - two of public television’s most beloved characters.

Kids will meet and greet with Daniel Tiger, from “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” on PBS KIDS, and enjoy fun activities presented by organizations such as The Arc Gateway Help Me Grow, Children’s Home Society/Healthy Families Program, Code Ninjas Pensacola, Community Action Program Committee, Conchita’s Catering, and the Dixon School for the Arts & Sciences.

Applications are open for 2024 Summer Youth Employment Program

Applications are now open for the Escambia County Summer Youth Employment Program. Applications are accepted now through 3 p.m. Friday, March 22. Online applications are available at MyEscambia.com/youthemployment. Physical applications are not available. Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

The program is open to Escambia County youth ages 16 to 24 interested in an opportunity to receive paid work experience this summer. Qualified youth who are accepted into ECSYEP will be able to work up to 30 hours a week, with positions available in various county departments along with the Escambia County School District, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector's Office and Supervisor of Elections Office.

Participants will also receive job readiness training prior to job placement as well as post-employment briefings.

Last summer, over 200 youth participated in the program, working in county departments including Engineering, Public Safety, Escambia County Area Transit, West Florida Public Libraries and more.
