Sandia National Labs improves microneedle technology

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Sandia National Laboratories is reintroducing its new and improved microneedle technology. Microneedles are two to three times the diameters of a strand of hair and only about a millimeter long.

They can be used to help medical personnel distinguish between bacterial and viral infections faster getting patients treated at the earlier stage possible. Scientists also say a microneedle is a more efficient way to sample fluid from under the skin. They hope to develop the technology even further so that people who use glucose monitors for diabetes will have a less invasive procedure to get their insulin levels.
