California Highway Patrol investigates burning body found in Old Town

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The homicide investigation involving a body found after a fire in Old Town Monday afternoon has been handed over to California Highway Patrol, according to a release Monday.

Authorities said they received a call shortly before 11:30 a.m. about a brush fire on the bike path near Pacific Highway and Taylor Street. The scene was determined to be located on California state property.

An unidentified body was found under the bridge after the fire was extinguished, according to a release by California Highway Patrol.

Road closures for a small stretch of Pacific Highway through Old Town were put in place to allow for the on-scene investigation, authorities said.

San Diego Police homicide detectives were initially involved in the investigation, which is now being handled by CHP’S Border Division Major Crimes Unit.
