San Diego County Fair hiring over 1,000 seasonal workers for summer

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego County Fair is going retro this year. In addition to all the fair has to offer, the District Agricultural Association is looking to hire over 1,000 people for the summer season.

The county fair will transport people back in time from the 50s through the millennium with its 2024 theme “Let’s Go Retro,” featuring 20 days of animals, rides, games, live music and entertainment, education, community exhibits, food, fun and more.

Ahead of the 2024 San Diego County Fair, which runs from June 12 to July 7 (with closures on Mondays and Tuesdays) at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the 22nd District Agricultural Association is looking to hire over 1,000 temporary workers for the summer season.

Many positions are available, from ticket takers, traffic directors, guest services ambassadors, to exhibits attendants, laborers, and much more. Both Indoor and outdoor jobs are available.

Jen Hellman with the San Diego County Fair was live in the KUSI studio Tuesday morning with what to expect when you work at the fair. Hellman herself started with the fair as a seasonal worker over 20 years ago and just kept coming back.

The fair spokesperson noted many jobs start before the fair even begins, and hiring has already begun for some positions. You can apply online at sdfair.com/jobs. Hourly rates start at $16, but can be higher depending on the position. Ages 14 and up are encouraged to apply.

Fair employees get discounted Fair tickets for friends and family, while many positions offer flexible hours.

The seasonal fair jobs are just for the summer, anyone interested in full-time positions can apply at DelMarFairgrounds.com/jobs.

Don’t miss the Toyota Summer Concert Series at the county fair, featuring bands and musicians whose careers have spanned multiple decades, including Grammy winners Little Big Town, TLC and Old Dominion, as well as award-winning late-night comedians Jay Leno, Craig Ferguson and Arsenio Hall. The concert series also features an appearance by Ludacris on June 28.

There will also be new and unique food offerings as the fair has encouraged vendors to create innovative options part of a food “challenge.”
