San Angelo Police Chief Candidate: Travis Griffith

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Early voting for the May city elections begins on April 22. Meet Travis Griffith, a candidate running for the upcoming San Angelo Police Chief election.

Sgt. Griffith shared that he is running because he wants to see improvement in every section of the San Angelo Police Department, whether it be field training officers, the SWAT team or the hostage negotiation team.

“I have wanted to make things better where I am at,” he said. “Improving teamwork, improving the product the citizen has so this is a perfect opportunity to see the improvement across the board at its highest level.”

Sgt. Griffith explained that he really wants to focus on transparency, accountability and safety when elected.

“I want to be transparent to a fault,” he continued. “I want to be able to you know exactly what we’re doing and while we’re doing it, I want to be accountable to you the voter, you matter, you’re the most important aspect of, of any elected office and a very close second as the officers and I think how you produce a safer better tomorrow is by having a higher quality trained officer that can be out there to respond to your needs.”

From being a field training officer to working in the anti-crime unit, Sgt. Griffith shared that he has served in almost every capacity of the San Angelo Police Department.

“I know how to be tough on crime and I think the more that we look at directing the resources where they need to be, the more that we’ll find a better quality for safety for our community,” Sgt. Griffith explained.

The police chief candidate highlighted issues that need to be addressed within the department including officers being below pay, being understaffed and multifaceted issues that the department needs to take on together.

“Regardless of who you voted for, regardless of where you support, it’s about being San Angelo and the more we can come together and stand together as a department standing for our people, the more we’ll have a brighter, better tomorrow.”
