Sam Ash closing Midtown flagship store, 18 locations nationwide

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — It’s the end of an era for two Sam Ash locations in New York City.

The music store is significantly downsizing and shuttering 18 locations across the country, including two in New York City, according to an amNewYork Metro report.

Sam Ash’s flagship store on 34th Street in Manhattan and another location in Forest Hills, Queens are set to close in the coming months. After those locations close, the last remaining Sam Ash Music Store would be the one in Brooklyn.

The music store has been serving musicians since 1924 and was founded by an Austrian immigrant who was a violin teacher. The music chain originated in New York with the first location in Brooklyn.

“For the last 100 years, Sam Ash Music has successfully adapted to meet the challenge of changing business conditions. As we look towards the next 100 years, the company must continue to adapt to ensure its continued success,” Sam Ash told amNewYork Metro.
