Salem Police arrest second person in mail theft case

A second person has been arrested by Salem Police and is facing charges stemming from a mail theft investigation.

Salem Police say 49-year-old Brett Regimbal was arrested after a seven-hour standoff on Monday at his home on 14th Avenue in West Salem.

Regimbal was arraigned in Polk County court on Tuesday on charges of identity theft and possession of a burglary tool. According to the indictment, he had a counterfeit USPS Community Box master key.

Police also say they found methamphetamine and what they suspect is fentanyl in his home.

In March, police arrested 33-year-old Ross Sierzega and say they found about 30 pounds of mail, counterfeit mailbox keys and tools to manufacture mailbox keys.

Sierzega, who is in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, has been charged with crimes including identity theft, forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Regimbal is being held in Polk County Jail on the charges and more including a case from Yamhill County, a Marion County case that includes forgery and ID theft and a separate Polk County case of domestic violence.

His next scheduled court appearance is at 9:30 a.m. on June 5.
