SAISD campuses earn Purple Star designation

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Three campuses in the San Angelo Independent School District have earned a Texas Education Agency Purple Star Designation for their commitment to serving their military-connected students.

Central High School, Glenn Middle School and Glenmore Elementary earned the prestigious distinction for their dedication to the children and families of San Angelo’s military community, such as those from Goodfellow Air Force Base.

“It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve our military-connected students and families,” Teri Gould, principal of Glenmore Elementary, said. “Glenmore’s support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of our military connected students and their families truly makes the difference as they adjust to living in a new community. We are so proud to receive this distinction and work hard to maintain the relationship we share with our partners at Goodfellow AFB.”

The distinction is awarded to campuses that provide exemplary accommodations for military families. According to SAISD, the three SAISD schools given the distinction have worked “to provide extra support systems for military-connected students,” including a program designed to help military-connected children acclimate to the environment of a new school.

“These campuses exemplify the characteristics within our SAISD Educator Profile through their commitment to our students by providing each student with an inspiring educational experience which prepares them to be future-ready, whatever that future may be,” SAISD said.

SAISD currently serves approximately 750 military-connected students across its campuses.
