Sacramento is set to hit 90 degrees for the first time this year. When will it heat up?

After a few days of rain and chilly temperatures, Sacramento is heating up.

Temperatures in the capital city are forecast to reach a high of 90 degrees by the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

“We will be going from below-normal temperatures to above-normal temperatures for this time of the year,” Scott Rowe, a senior service hydrologist at the National Weather Service in Sacramento, said Monday morning.

High temperatures in the Sacramento metropolitan area typically hover around 80 degrees in early May, he said.

“By the time we hit Friday (and) Saturday, (highs) will be in the upper 80s to right around 90 degrees for the Sacramento metro area for the first time (this) year,” Rowe said.

What’s in the weather forecast for Sacramento?

There’s no rain in sight in Sacramento’s forecast, according to Rowe.

Instead, he said, “The next seven days will be warm and dry,” with the weather trend continuing “into the first part of next week.”

The capital city will kick off the week with a high temperature of 71 degrees and an overnight low temperature of 48 on Monday, according to the weather service’s seven-day forecast.

Tuesday will see a high of 74 degrees and a low of 53 degrees. Skies will be clear and sunny in the area.

Temperatures in the capital city start to heat up in the middle of the week.

On Wednesday, temperatures will reach a high of 80 degrees and low of 57 degrees.

Thursday will see a high of 86 degrees and a low of 56 degrees.

The high temperature on Friday will climb up to 89 degrees, with a low of 57 degrees.

Saturday is forecast to see a high of 89 degrees, and the high will reach 90 degrees on Sunday.

Watch out for gusty winds

Breezy northerly winds are forecast to develop in the Sacramento metro area starting Tuesday and will continue into Wednesday, Rowe said.

“In the Sacramento metro area we could see gusts anywhere in the 20- to 30-mph range on the north,” Rowe said. “Even stronger winds are expected farther west and north .... on the (Interstate 5) corridor as you go between the Woodlands and Redding.”

Sacramento should see the strongest winds overnight Tuesday, according to the weather service.
