Sacramento light rail dealing with closures throughout May

(FOX40.COM) — SacRT said on Friday that its light rail service will experience plenty of closures throughout the month due to station platform construction on its new low-floor light rail vehicles.

According to the transportation agency, the new light rail vehicles will begin service on the Gold and Green lines this summer.

Here is a full schedule of the upcoming closures that riders can anticipate.

On May 11, 18, 19, 25, and 26, station platform construction will impact the tracks at 13th Street Station and several light rail stations on the Blue and Gold lines will not have light rail service. Instead, bus bridges, which are shuttle buses that will take riders between stations, will be in place for the following locations:

  • On May 18: Gold Line: Bus bridge between 29th Street and Sacramento Valley stations.

  • On May 18: Blue Line: Bus bridge between Globe and Broadway stations.

  • All other dates: Gold Line: Bus bridge between 13th Street and Sacramento Valley stations.

  • All other dates: Blue Line: Bus bridge between Globe and 13th Street stations.

From Wednesday to Friday of the upcoming week, and Monday to Friday of the week that follows, SacRT says its light rail trains will travel through Archives Plaza Station; however, passengers cannot board or deboard at the station due to construction. The nearest open stations are 13th Street Station 8th & Capitol Station (inbound) and the 8th & O Station.

Toward the end of the month, specifically from May 27 to May 31, no bus bridges will be available during the closures of the outbound platform at the Archives Plaza Station.

SacRT said it is currently in the “first phase” of station platform modifications on the Gold Line, which the agency expects to be completed around June. It adds that it will begin construction on the Blue Line in the fall.

The transportation agency adds that light rail train testing and “double-tracking construction” will continue in Folsom through August.
