Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office teams with non-profit to collect donation items for deployed service members

(FOX40.COM) — Every year, the Sacramento Blue Star Moms send 1,500 care packages to deployed men and women overseas. The packages include snacks, hygiene items, and hand-written letters of support and thanks. This year, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is helping by providing easy donation locations for drop-offs. The sheriff’s office says they’re happy to help.

“A lot of our deputies are veterans themselves so it was a no-brainer for us to help with this,” Tammy Hinds with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.

Memorial Day and Veterans Day, what’s the difference?

If you’re interested in donating, you can do so through the beginning of July.

Needed items include:
•Non-perishable snacks (nuts, beef jerky, energy bars, canned fruit and vegetables, trail mix)
•Hygiene items (tampons, pads, foot powder, body wipes, toothbrush, nail clippers)
•Powdered drink mixes (Liquid IV, Gatorade, hot chocolate)

You can drop them off at any sheriff’s office location, including the main jail, as well as Henry’s Lounge on O Street in Sacramento, Folsom Prison Museum and Bill’s Donuts on Auburn Folsom Road in Granite Bay.
