Russians replace mobile service with payphones in occupied Luhansk Oblast
The Russians disabled the mobile phone service and are installing public payphones in temporarily occupied frontline settlements of Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine’s regional governor Artem Lysohor reported on Telegram on May 16.
"In the towns and villages occupied in 2022 near the frontline, the Russians have long since cut off the mobile phone service," Lysohor said. "As an alternative, they are installing payphones on the streets of these settlements."
Twenty-seven payphones have already been installed in Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Kreminna, and Syrotyne by the so-called "Digital Ministry of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR)," allowing only local and emergency services calls.
On May 15, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine reported the increased number of cyberattacks on Ukrainian military mobile phones by Russian hackers.
