Russell County church destroyed in fire from suspected lightning strike

PITTSVIEW, Ala. (WRBL) – A Russell County church congregation is grappling with a profound loss following severe weather overnight.

Russell County investigators suspect a lightning strike at Mount Olive Baptist Church sparked a fire that leveled the house of worship on Continuation Street. Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire.

Russell County High School receives School of Excellence Award

Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage as church elders and the congregation figure out the next step.
