Runner targeted by thieves on trail in Libertyville

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. — Police in the north suburbs are searching for two people who attempted to rob a man who was running on a trail on Monday morning.

According to police, it all unfolded around 9:45 a.m. as the man was running on the Libertyville Nature Preserve Trail, just southwest of Newgate Court.

Libertyville police say while the victim was running, two people who were sitting on a nearby bench blocked his path and told him to empty his pockets.

The victim refused to comply and was punched by one of the two people, an altercation then ensued.

Police say the victim was able to get the upper hand and escaped the situation with only minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

Officers are now searching for the two people responsible.

Police say one of the two people is believed to be a 20-year-old man, who stands around 6-foot-2 and has longer, unkempt hair that is short sides.

The second individual is believed to be a 17-year-old boy who stands around 5-foot-7 and has short, thick and unkempt dreadlocks.
