Three people injured after severe weather in Fayette County

UPDATE: Wednesday, April 3, 2024 @ 11:41 a.m. | Three people required medical attention as a result of storms that occurred in Fayette County.

According to a press release from the Ansted Fire Department, around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, multiple emergency responders went to the area of Bandys Sunoco in La Vista along Route 60 for reports that included damaged or destroyed structures, high winds, and more.

Once emergency responders arrived, they evaluated people and buildings for any injuries or damage. Many structures were damaged, however no people needed to be extricated from buildings.

While there were not any major injuries, three people did need medical. One person was taken to a local hospital, and the other two declined transport. The scene was cleared around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

More than 49 emergency responders responded to the incident, including crews from fire departments from Nuttall, Ansted, Danese, Rainelle, Fayetteville, Oak Hill and Summersville; the West Virginia Division of Highways; city, county and state law enforcement agencies; Nicholas County Emergency Management Director; and Jan Care and General ambulances.


UPDATE: Tuesday, April 2, 2024 @ 9:13 p.m. | According to the Rainelle Fire Department, Route 60 is reopened.

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — A road in Fayette County will be closed for an unknown length of time, according to the Rainelle Fire Department.

According to a Facebook post made by the Rainelle Fire Department, Route 60 at Nuttall Westbound will be closed indefinitely.

The fire department also stated that their Rescue Unit 145 was on scene helping Nuttall with coverage, and that they will inform people when the roadway is safe to open.
