Route 322 bridge in Centre County will close for emergency repairs later this week

A bridge on U.S. Route 322 in Centre County will be closed for a period later this week for emergency repairs, the state department of transportation announced.

A one-day closure of a Route 322 bridge spanning Route 45 in Harris Township is planned for Thursday and will impact eastbound traffic. County maintenance will complete emergency deck repairs to improve safety and ride quality for motorists, according to a press release from PennDOT.

Work will be conducted between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, depending on the weather.

During the closure, eastbound traffic heading away from State College will exit Route 322 at the Old Fort interchange and use a detour through Route 45 and Boal Avenue, to reconnect with Route 322.

In an email, Timothy Nebgen, PennDOT District 2 Press Officer, said new cracks in the concrete found during a recent inspection exposed some of the rebar.

“PennDOT already had a project to repair the deck surface programmed for later this season, however this new inspection and the discovery of the exposed rebar warranted completing these repairs immediately,” Nebgen wrote.
