Roswell Police, Walgreens to host prescription drug take back event

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The Roswell Police Department and Walgreens are hosting a prescription drug take back event this month. The event allows people to safely dispose of their unwanted medication.

People can bring their unwanted and unneeded prescription drugs to the Walgreens located at 1200 S. Main St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. The service is free and those bringing prescription drugs can remain anonymous. Vape devices will also be accepted during the event as long as the batteries have been removed before dropping off the devices. Liquid products should be in the original container with the cap tightly secured to prevent leakage. Syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs will not be accepted.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is an initiative of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) offering citizens an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft. The drugs turned in at the Roswell event and other local events throughout the nation are retrieved by DEA officials for disposal by incineration.
