Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen in need of donations

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Rose of Sharon soup kitchen is facing an increasing demand and is in need of donations to help serve the community.

Executive Director Theresa Wilson has been CEO of the kitchen for seven years. When she started, she recalled serving around 40 people a day. Now, it’s more than five times that amount.

“Everyday now we’re seeing over 300 people and not just homeless all walks of life are coming to use our services,” Wilson said.

With the increase in demand, they are trying keep the pantry fully stocked.

“We’re feeding over 300 meals a day which is a lot its a highest peak we’ve ever been to so food is a big need for us right now just so we can prepare good meals and hearty meals for these people,” said Abby Wilson, who works in the kitchen.

Right now, a lot of families are living paycheck to paycheck, but Theresa Wilson is asking for people to donate.

“Times are really tough and we’re just struggling just to buy food and not only that but just to keep the lights on here,” Wilson said.

They are taking both food and monetary donations, but monetary donations are what they are in need of. You can donate food or funds by visiting their website.
