Ron Burkle Purchases His Second of Bob Hope's Former Estates

The iconic Bob Hope’s former estate in Toluca Lake, California, has been sold for $15 million and the lucky buyer is once again none other than Ron Burkle. The American investor and philanthropist also owns Hope’s former estate in Palm Springs, California—which cost him $13 million in 2016. Proceeds from the recent sale (which came from the estate of Bob and Dolores Hope) will benefit the Bob and Dolores Hope Foundation: an initiative that “supports organizations that bring ‘hope’ to those in need, and those who served to protect our nation.”

Bob Hope, the famous British-American comedian and actor who passed away in 2003 just after turning 100, and his wife, Dolores, commissioned the architect Robert Finkelhor to construct a classic home for them in 1939. In the 1950s, the Hopes commissioned John Elgin Woolf, another architect, to enhance—and modernize—the residence. (Woolf was well-known in the area, where he had collaborated with celebrities, from Judy Garland and Cary Grant to Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, on their homes.)

The 15,000-square-foot mansion was created to entertain: The interiors include a bar, a billiards room, two dining rooms, and a library. On the estate, there is the eight-bedroom main house as well as a two-bedroom poolhouse and other accommodations. The 5.16 acres are decorated with a one-hole golf course and two swimming pools, in the middle of extensive lawns with an array of foliage.
