Romesh Ranganathan has opened up about replacing Claudia Winkleman on the BBC Radio 2 slot on Saturday morning.

Ranganathan, who hosted For the Love of Hip Hop on Radio 2, recently took over Winkleman's radio gig, entertaining listeners from 10am till 1pm.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other press at last night's (May 12) BAFTAs, where he and Winkleman were both in attendance, Ranganathan admitted being extremely nervous to take the coveted slot.

"Taking over Claudia's show on Radio 2 was obviously very nerve-wracking, she's done it so well," he said after joking he and The Traitors host are "enemies" now.

He revealed Winkleman has helped him with his anxiety over his first Saturday show back in April.

"She's been really great at giving me advice, giving me some tips, [and] helping me with the first-show nerves," he said.

And it seems that Winkleman's advice worked as Ranganathan gave her a lovely shout-out during his first show on April 20, saying, "we're all going to miss Claudia."

"I'm brand new to Saturday mornings. I know you guys have been listening to the slot thinking, 'Oh am I going to miss Claudia?' We're all going to miss Claudia," he said on air, "but I'm here to get to know you and, hopefully, you'll get to realise, you know, he's different, but he's still good!"

As for Winkleman, the host has confessed she had asked The Traitors producers to "just leave it" after the success of the first two rounds.

"I was reluctant to do the second and now I'm extra reluctant to do the third," she said on Good Morning Britain last month.

"I'm like, 'Guys, just leave it! It did okay, leave it!'

"They just say, 'No'. The head of the BBC, I told you, sloped forward and took my temperature."

Despite Winkleman's hesitancies, the BBC has no plans to pull the plug on the hit reality TV show. The network has, in fact, just commissioned a celebrity version to go with the usual civilian version airing in the UK.

The Traitors series 1-2 are streaming on BBC iPlayer.
