Rogers approves funds to resurface New Hope Road

ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The city of Rogers approved extra funds to resurface one of the its main roads.

New Hope Road is getting an overlay from 52nd Street to 8th Street.

The state gave the city a grant of $300,000 to overlay the road, but in order to improve the whole road, the project will cost around $1.4 million. A resolution passed in the city council to contribute around $1.2 million extra.

The deputy director of engineering for the city says spending the money now to fix the road will save them in the future.

“Maintenance on any street really anything is important because, over time, it deteriorates and you have to keep the maintenance up on it, or it will just quit functioning. And, eventually we would have to reconstruct it which is even more expensive than just doing an overlay,” said Lance Jobe, deputy director of engineering.

Jobe says the city does not have a timeline yet for when the project will start, but he says it shouldn’t affect traffic too much because they will work on the road at night.
